Biodiversity Regeneration and Conservation
Responsible People leads two major recovery and reforestation projects in the Andes. For generations, local communities have relied on cutting down trees for cooking and other daily needs, gradually depleting the forests that once covered their lands and surrounding mountains.
To restore what has been lost, Responsible People is working on two key initiatives: reforesting native Andean trees, such as the Queuña, and promoting sustainable beekeeping. Through these efforts, we aim not only to revive local biodiversity but also to educate communities on how to preserve it.
We organize workshops and talks focused on environmental awareness, including the use of alternative fuels for household energy, helping families reduce deforestation and protect their natural resources.
These ongoing projects represent a vital step toward building a greener, more sustainable future for the Andes and its people.
Reforestation Native Plants
For over four years, Responsible People has been working to restore the biodiversity of high Andean communities and the subtropical zones of Cusco, such as Bajo Urubamba, Quillabamba, and other towns that have experienced significant tree loss due to indiscriminate deforestation.
For many years, high Andean communities deforested vast areas of local trees to create land for crops, livestock, and firewood, leading to the loss of flora and fauna across these regions. The same has occurred in Bajo Urubamba, located in the subtropical part of Cusco.
Responsible People has set goals to reforest all the hectares lost to deforestation with the support of local people and volunteers. We have reforested a large area of Quenua trees in the community of Sondor Rumira and planted over 30,000 trees. This is just the beginning of this project, working together with the entire population and volunteers. Our goal is to restore the lost ecosystem.
To prevent further deforestation, we have implemented training for communities, students, and residents living in the buffer zones, creating work methods focused on the production and reforestation of local plants in nearby hills.
Responsible People purchases each tree from the locals, encouraging them to engage in the production of these plants as a source of income, especially in an economy impacted by time and exacerbated by COVID-19.
At Responsible People, we are committed to continuing our support and collaboration with communities to restore biodiversity. In this way, we can recover all the local trees, flora, and fauna that once thrived in these areas
Biodiversity Restoration through Beekeeping
Responsible People has initiated the creation of beekeeping centers in Bajo Urubamba, providing training and establishing bee breeding and care centers.
Beekeeping is crucial for biodiversity restoration through plant pollination. Responsible People saw an opportunity to work with beekeeping in the subtropical communities of Cusco. Our goal is for every village in Bajo Urubamba, including Maranura, to have its own bee breeding and care facilities. This will enable them to produce honey, royal jelly, propolis, wax, and pollen, creating an additional source of income for each family and improving their economic situation.
Responsible People aims to expand this beekeeping project to many more villages in Bajo Urubamba, thereby restoring and regenerating plant biodiversity and contributing to the recovery of local fauna
