Machu Picchu Launches Environmental Promoter Initiative
Aguas Calientes is a very touristy town and is the mandatory stop to visit Machu Picchu. Also, this small town is in the spotlight of many countries, as it is the gateway to one of the Seven Wonders of the World and is recognized for obtaining the Carbon Neutral certificate. The town of Aguas Calientes maintains its recognition, thanks to the measurement, reduction, and compensation of its greenhouse gas emissions.
Daily, it manages the waste produced by residents and visitors at its recycling plant located in Puente Ruinas, at the foot of Machu Picchu. For many reasons, the town of Machu Picchu has been valued over the years for its recycling and environmental care.

Nowadays, the town of Aguas Calientes held a meeting with young people and children from the school located in the same town, with the support of SERNANP (an institution of the Peruvian state that supports the environment), tourism operators, and the company Tierras Vivas, which is committed to supporting training and environmental conservation through sustainable travel.
At the meeting, young people, adults, children, and tourism operators committed to protecting the landscapes and nature of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. They are few, but this awareness-raising project is growing and reaching many more places.

Tierras Vivas and the population of Aguas Calientes and tourism operators made an oath to protect the environment and care for nature, through recycling, protection, and training for surrounding communities, to care for the town. Today they are the protectors of the environment.
Machu Picchu: “Machu Picchu, I love you, Machu Picchu, I adore you, No plastics, Yes to care”
Following the oath of the new protectors of Machu Picchu and the environment, a mobilization took place through the town where tourism operators and SERNANP shouted at the top of their voices: “Machu Picchu, I love you,” “Machu Picchu, I adore you,” “No plastics and no trash.” For more than an hour, the streets of Aguas Calientes were filled with this message, to make it clear that not only the town of Aguas Calientes or SERNANP are concerned with environmental care, but also all the Inca Trail operators in favor of protecting the Inca citadel and the environment.
