Sustainable Tourism: Communities, Culture, and Conservation

At Responsible People, we are committed to sustainable tourism that protects the cultures and traditions of Andean communities while preventing environmental pollution. We work with multiple communities in Cusco to train members in environmental conservation and protection of the ecosystems and natural resources surrounding their homes.

At Responsible People, we work to preserve and recover the traditions and culture of communities by implementing sustainable tourism practices. Our communities welcome travelers, share their culture and history, and generate income from these authentic experiences. We also train children in environmental conservation, ensuring that future generations become stewards of their land.

Sustainable community tourism

Responsible People is working with our travel partners and communities to create new economic opportunities for families. Sustainable and community-based tourism initiatives are being developed, where families can welcome travelers and share their history and traditions.

Responsible People provides training to families in the communities to work in experiential tourism. They showcase their traditions, such as cultivating Andean products, caring for their animals, learning about medicinal plants, and creating textiles. Each family group develops an itinerary that aligns with their daily lives. All families receive training in first aid, food handling, and hospitality to ensure travelers have a safe and comfortable experience.

Education for Sustainable Futures

At Responsible People Foundation, we believe that education is the most powerful tool for building a sustainable future. Through our Education for Sustainable Futures Project, we bring environmental and cultural education directly to the children of the Cochayoc community in the Andean region of Cusco. Our goal is to inspire the next generation to protect their environment, value their traditions, and become leaders in sustainability within their own communities.

Learning for Change

Our team, together with volunteers and partner travel companies, visits local schools to teach children about environmental conservation, recycling, and cultural preservation. We organize fun and interactive workshops where students learn how to separate waste, reduce plastic use, and understand the importance of caring for nature.

These educational sessions also include cultural activities — storytelling, traditional music, and art — to help children strengthen their connection to Andean heritage while embracing modern sustainability practices.

Supporting Education with School Supplies

Thanks to the generous contributions from our travelers, donors, and partner tour operators — including Tierras Vivas, Inca Trail Machu, Salkantay Trek Machu, Machu Picchut Travel, and Travel Tour Group — we also deliver essential school supplies to the students. Notebooks, pencils, books, and educational materials help improve the learning experience and encourage children to stay in school.

A Shared Commitment

Each visit to Cochayoc is a reminder that small actions can create lasting change. By supporting this project or traveling with our partner companies, you help us expand our educational outreach to more schools across rural Peru. Together, we are not only teaching children — we are planting the seeds of environmental responsibility and hope for generations to come.
