People: Helping to improving the life for communities

Our vocation is to create sustainable opportunities to better welfare of inhabitants in the Andes. According to the diary Economist, the Peruvian highlands are home to the largest concentration of poor people in whole South America! Many of those people live in remote and hardly accessible villages.

In Peru, rural poverty has caused the indigenous population to suffer disproportionately compared to those living in urban areas. Accordingly a survey of UNICEF made in 2009, 78% of children, whose first language was either Aymara or Quechua (native languages), lived in poverty, compared to 40% of children whose mother tongue was Spanish. UNICEF said that just 32% of native children aged between 3 and 5 attended school. High illiteracy is a result as well as reason of rural poverty. This affects women more than men. Women´s income is the major part of a family budget.

Poor or none healthcare, lack of food (do not even mention its quality and low nutritive value), analphabetism and income inequality are hardships that those people face every day.

Tourism is one of the most effective means to empower employment, increase demand for local products and services, better infrastructure, develop education and bring foreign capital into these poor rural areas.

Responsible People: Helping to improving the life for communities

How Does Responsible People Improve Communities?

Responsible People has been working for many years on projects to improve life for Andean communities. Some projects are designed to work directly with families in these communities. By partnering with them, we provide additional sources of income that help support their livelihoods. Additionally, Responsible People brings in specialists—such as doctors, nutritionists, and other professionals—to help improve the quality of life in these communities.

At Responsible People, we support community projects economically while addressing health, nutrition, and family planning needs. We also help create and investigate new income streams through community-based tourism and other sustainable practices. The communities we work with are disadvantaged families located in the highlands of Cusco, and many are now generating new income through Responsible People’s initiatives.

Responsible People has grown our projects to improve family communities through joint collaboration with residents. In our efforts to enhance the lives of families, we have identified three key areas of focus:

Improving Life For Communities

Health

Responsible People is committed to the health and well-being of community members. We bring health specialists to evaluate and assess the health of families in these communities. Through these evaluations, we identify health needs and provide appropriate support.

Responsible People works with partner organizations to secure funding and bring specialists, such as doctors from various medical specialties, to these communities. They provide comprehensive health check-ups for all family members, including the elderly and children.

Additionally, we offer Family Planning programs that work with both women and men in high Andean communities. We provide workshops on family planning, psychology, and personal care, emphasizing the importance of caring for families and children—who are vital for future generations.

We need support from people who want to help us improve health in these communities.

Nutrition

Proper nutrition is essential for children’s development and educational success, and for families to work without complications. Responsible People employs nutrition specialists who regularly visit communities to evaluate the nutritional status of families and children. We also work with agriculture specialists who teach families how to improve their food production.

In high Andean communities, diets typically consist mainly of potatoes, vegetables, noodles, and occasionally meat and chicken. Responsible People collaborates with communities and families to develop new food production methods. This helps families gain the necessary nutrients to improve their health and well-being. Additionally, they can sell surplus products to create extra income and improve their economic situation.

Social / Cultural Immersion Tourism

Responsible People trains community members to create itineraries for cultural immersion experiences. We work with family groups who, under the guidance of tourism specialists, develop authentic itineraries for visitors. Experiences include food preparation, traditional accommodations, daily life demonstrations, medicinal plant presentations, textiles, crafts, and more.

Through cultural immersion tourism, we improve the economic situation of families while sharing the richness of Andean culture and traditions. Visitors gain meaningful insights and take home beautiful memories of their experience.
